Employee Spotlight: Anthony, Principal Security Consultant, Australia

Describe your typical day at NCC Group

My day can vary greatly. I may be delivering a specific project for a client, supporting our sales team with scoping future projects, meeting with our clients across different industries or helping to manage our Australian security consulting team.

I like to stay current with the latest news, tools and techniques in the security industry, so I read a lot of articles, follow people on social media and listen to podcasts.

On most days I probably do a bit of all of the above.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Mostly, I just enjoy breaking things! There’s a lot of satisfaction in finding a way to force a system into doing something that it wasn’t designed to do. It’s also thrilling to combine issues in a creative way that achieves the goal of a targeted assessment.

As a security consultant, I also enjoy the wide range of technologies and environments that I get to work with. Every week I continue to learn something new or find a better way of doing something. The continuous learning and development is a very appealing part of my role.

It’s also great to see the impact that my work has in helping our clients to become more secure.

Why did you decide to work for NCC Group?

The opportunity to work for NCC Group presented itself while I was working as an internal security consultant for an organization in the UK; my background was in system and security administration and internal security consultancy. The role at NCC Group gave me an opportunity to focus and develop an area of my current role that I really enjoyed.

One thing about NCC Group that really appealed to me was the ability to learn from some of the best and most well known people in the security industry.

What is the most unique thing about working at NCC Group?

With such a large group of consultants across the globe, it's amazing to be able to send out an internal email asking for help and have some of the most knowledgeable and talented people in the industry respond back.

Over the last few years I’ve also enjoyed attending our internal NCC Con security conference in Dublin. It’s been great to catch up with our consultants from around the world in a friendly, social environment and see some great presentations about the exciting security research they’ve been working on.

How do you see your career progressing with NCC Group?

I've been involved in the security industry for almost 20 years. It's changed a lot in that time and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Security is an exciting area to be involved in and NCC Group is one of the leaders helping to shape the future of the industry.

My role at NCC Group has evolved quite a bit since 2011, when I started in the UK as a security consultant. A few years later I moved back home to Australia and since then have enjoyed seeing our Australian team grow at a rapid pace. Our growth in the region has given me the opportunity to develop my role within NCC Group and I expect there will be plenty more exciting opportunities in the future.

What is your top tip for someone applying for a similar role at NCC Group?

My top tip for someone applying to be a security consultant at NCC Group is prepare to be challenged. If you’re the type of person who likes developing new skills, playing with a wide range of technology and contributing to a team, then you’re going to enjoy yourself.
