Security industry “must continue to give back” in effort to close cyber skills gap

Those in the security industry must continue to give back if the cyber skills gap is to be closed.

That’s the view of Derek Price, technical security consultant at NCC Group, who will host a full day of cyber activities at Culcheth High School in Cheshire in June.

He will deliver a presentation and participate in a number of hacking demonstrations, before setting up a capture the flag event.

Price, who attended Culcheth High School, said: “To get the chance to go back to my old school and promote cyber security as a career is really exciting.

“With so much focus on the cyber skills gap, it’s important that those of us in the industry share our passion for security with the younger generations.”

In February, NCC Group announced its involvement in the government-backed CyberFirst initiative, which will see it offer bursaries to students in a bid to encourage more youngsters to take up careers in cyber.
